Matches of a single tournament maybe limited to one venue to manage logistics

The PCB has made a principle decision to start the domestic season this year in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic under a strict biosecure environment. The season is likely to start in the last week of September with a national T20 Cup in Multan or Rawalpindi. The premier tournament Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will be hosted by Karachi all along. There will be a 40-man squad for each of the six association teams this year to counter the worst scenario of anyone testing positive for Covid-19.Since 1972, Pakistan hasn’t missed a single season of domestic cricket, though between 1953 and 1971, there were seasons (1955-56, 1965-66 and 1971-72) in which it wasn’t held for many reasons including two India-Pakistan wars.There were considerable doubts for the upcoming season as well due to the pandemic, with the country presently having nearly 275,000 cases. That led the government to announce a lockdown despite the upcoming festival of Eid, with all retail shops, markets, shopping malls and plazas to remain closed until August 5. The curve in the country has gone down in the last one month but the government remains cautioned with cases expected to take another peak by the end of July and early August, according to prime minister Imran Khan.The domestic season will eventually start with a delay, though of not more than a month. The calendar is being worked out to limit the matches of a single tournament to one venue to effectively manage the logistics between the hotel and the stadium.The PCB hasn’t officially released the details, but unofficially it has been confirmed that the T20 Cup will be the first tournament to start the season, aiming at the Pakistan Super League players’ draft in November to allow franchises to witness players. But in Karachi, which has over six venues, the gap between two games will be reduced. There are SOPs that are being chalked out adhering to the protocol being followed internationally. Players who test negative for Covid-19 will be allowed to enter the bubble; any player breaching the protocol will have to go through a quarantine period and face a penalty ranging from a fine to a ban from one or more games.All competitions are marked as being played under unprecedented circumstances with strict health and safety protocols. The SOPs will most likely mirror the international norms but a few will be customised on a duty to care basis. The playing conditions will broadly be the same, but as witnessed in the Test series between England and West Indies, bowlers will not be allowed to use saliva to shine the ball. Umpires, referees and scorers, who often went back home on normal days, will have to remain in the bubble alongside the teams in the hotels.The PCB had last month tried to bring its cricketers back to training but the idea was shot down amidst concerns of Covid-19. The senior Pakistan team, however, flew to England in advance ahead of their series to train in a biosecure bubble. A group has been undergoing conditioning camps and playing intra-squad matches to prepare for the Test series starting August 5.Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the PCB has been in a bid to mitigate the impact on domestic cricketers, offering all the selected players annual contracts from August 2020. Otherwise, after extensive structural changes to the domestic game last season, there would have been a steep fall in the earnings of several cricketers. But this year, the board enhanced the value of contracts while introducing a new grade-based system of monthly retainers and match fees.

Unless personnel are changed, the same problems that have haunted the Red Devils since the first game of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers will continue to occur.

Unfortunately, Casemiro’s decline has been rather rapid, with the midfielder now visibly causing issues for his side rather than impacting the game in a positive manner.

This has been apparent over the last few months, but it was particularly highlighted against Liverpool last weekend, as he struggled on every front.

The Manchester Evening News’ player ratings from the game also support that, handing him a 5/10 rating for his performance, and the statistics from that game also suggest he was disappointing.

Having said that, as you can see, the 32-year-old was actually rather strong defensively, making four tackles and six clearances, which helped United pick up a point.

However, there’s little use in a player winning the ball back if they’re just going to give it away cheaply and continuously, which is where Casemiro has particularly fallen short recently.

The number 18 had a 69% pass accuracy, and he also lost possession 16 times, which prevented United from gaining control and, more alarmingly, he gave Liverpool plenty of chances to counter.

This complacency in possession simply cannot occur against the Cherries this weekend, with the side extremely strong on the counterattack with the quality of Dominic Solanke up front.

Furthermore, Casemiro was dribbled past on three occasions and lost six of his 11 duels, which proves his athleticism is now a problem, with journalist Richard Keys alluding to the fact that he’s not "able to run".

Overall, it’s quite clear that as each game goes by, Casemiro is struggling even more, with his decision-making on and off the ball becoming an issue, and it’s no surprise to see that he’s on the list of players to sell this summer.

Everton want versatile "assist machine"

According to Tutto Juve [via Sport Witness], Everton have entered the race to sign Juventus youngster Samuel Iling-Junior this summer, who could also be available for a realtively low fee. Juve are thought to be willing to let Iling-Junior leave for just €15m (£12.8m) this summer, which is seen as a cut-price amount compared to what the Italian giants were demanding in the past.

A host of other Premier League teams are also eyeing a move for the 20-year-old however, with Brighton, Newcastle United and Tottenham all mentioned in the report.

The left-back/winger could be a great option for Everton in the summer window, coming in as a player who can make an immediate difference with his quality, but also acting as a long-term acquisition. Iling-Junior has been lauded as an "assist machine" by journalist Michele Neri, who said last year: "You can absolutely see shades of Rafael Leao when the AC Milan superstar was a bit younger.

"Of course he is certainly less impactful today than Leao is and has a long way to go to reach the Portuguese’s level. He is an assist machine, but he can also score, especially when his movements off the ball allows him to find space in the penalty area."

Após a campanha histórica em 2019, o Flamengo teve mais trabalho e precisou de uma arrancada final surpreendente – e uma dose de sorte – para assegurar o Brasileirão 2020. Na temporada atual, a equipe de Rogério Ceni ainda se sagrou campeã da Supercopa do Brasil e do Carioca, mas terá que enfrentar uma série de desafios para buscar o inédito tricampeonato brasileiro.

O primeiro deles é corrigir a fragilidade do sistema defensivo, que já era alvo de críticas desde o ano passado esegue sendo a principal deficiência rubro-negra em 2021. Em 16 jogos na temporada atual, o time sofreu 21 gols e não foi vazado em apenas três partidas.

Outro problema será o alto número de desfalques por convocação. Com grandes chances de serem convocados para a Copa América, Arrascaeta, Isla, Everton Ribeiro e Gabigol devem ficar de fora da 2ª até a 10ª rodada. Como se não bastasse, as Olimpíadas e as rodadas das Eliminatórias também devem causar ‘dor de cabeça’ para Rogério Ceni no segundo semestre.

O Flamengo inicia o Brasileirão com apenas três jogadores lesionados: César, Renê e Thiago Maia. Mesmo assim, os olhos da torcida estão voltados para os casos de Diego Alves e Rodrigo Caio, que sofreram com problemas físicos nos últimos meses e se tornaram figuras frequentes no departamento médico.

Um último fator que pode atrapalhar os planos do Flamengo é o impacto da provável saída de Gerson. Próximo de um acerto com o Olympique, o volante é peça-chave da equipe desde 2019 e essencial para o estilo de jogo de Rogério Ceni. Jovem e promissor, João Gomes surge como o substituto natural, mas a mudança pode obrigar o treinador a encontrar novos mecanismos para o time.

ووفقًا لصحيفة “بيلد”، من المتوقع أن يترك فيرتز فريقه ليفركوزن في الصيف المقبل مع سعي ريال مدريد ومانشستر سيتي بقوة للتعاقد مع اللاعب.

وأفادت الصحيفة الألمانية بأن آرسنال منافس جاد على صفقة فيرتز بعد انسحاب باريس سان جيرمان من السباق.

ويذكر التقرير أن آرسنال ملتزم تمامًا بالمفاوضات ويسعى بجدية لحسم التعاقد لصالحه أمام أنظار ريال مدريد ومانشستر سيتي.
