Tottenham player now reaches agreement in principle to join European giants

da aviator aposta: A big-name European side have now reached an agreement in principle with one player over joining them from Tottenham, with club chiefs set to meet Spurs officials in the next few days for further transfer talks.

Players who could be sold by Tottenham this summer

da bet vitoria: Wales international Joe Rodon became the latest surplus squad member to be shown the door this week, with the Lilywhites and Leeds United shaking hands on a £10 million move which also saw teenage sensation Archie Gray head the other way in a separate deal.

Tottenham weighing up move for £60 million forward who Postecoglou loves

The Australian is a real fan of him.

Rodon was out of favour under Ange Postecoglou and enjoyed a terrific loan spell at Elland Road last season, playing a crucial role as Leeds only narrowly missed out on immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

Letting the 26-year-old re-join Leeds permanently for £10 million, which is very nearly equal to the fee Spurs paid to sign him from Swansea in 2020, also helps to make up the £40 million they forked out for Gray – with chairman Daniel Levy down just £30m when taking into account Rodon's sale.

All in all, this is prudent business from Spurs, who also wish to add further upgrades to Postecoglou's squad. In terms of who else could be sold after Rodon, there are many up for the chopping block.

Reliable club insider Paul O'Keefe claimed in May that Tottenham are open to offers for over a dozen members of their team this summer, with Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic all leaving Spurs following the expiry of their contracts.

The north Londoners also reached an agreement to terminate Tanguy Ndombele's deal, a year before it was meant to run out. Reports in France claim Ndombele is set to join Nice after leaving Spurs, and it is rumoured that Bryan Gil, Djed Spence, Giovani Lo Celso, Troy Parrott, Richarlison, Sergio Reguilon, Yves Bissouma, Manor Solomon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are all players who could be sold by Tottenham this summer after the aformentioned bunch.

Emerson Royal reaches agreement in principle to join AC Milan

Now, Calciomercato have shared an update on Emerson Royal and his future at N17. The Brazilian right-back fell down Postecoglou's pecking order last season due to the stellar form of Pedro Porro, but did play a key role when mainstay starters were unavailable.

Royal even slotted in at centre-back for a period in mid-season when Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were unavailable, but the 25-year-old may well leave in the coming weeks for more guaranteed minutes.

AC Milan have been attempting to sign the former Barcelona ace from Spurs for quite some time, but Calcio claim terms are no issue. Royal has reached an agreement in principle to join Milan from Tottenham, according to the report, and the two clubs are set for a sit-down this week to find out whether they can shake hands over a fee.

Postecoglou's side want £21 million for Royal, while the Rossoneri only want to pay around £15 million. There is, however, a feeling that the two sides can reach a compromise at £17 million.

'Absolutely no communication' leaves fans frustrated at The Oval's rain-affected double-header

“That’s exactly what we don’t need in cricket and exactly what the Hundred isn’t designed to do,” England captain Heather Knight said

Matt Roller09-Aug-2021

The men’s match betwee Oval Invincibles and Trent Rockets was reduced to a 65-ball-a-side contest on Sunday•Getty Images

The Hundred has put the idea that there is no such thing as bad publicity to the test ever since its soft launch three-and-a-half years ago, and Sunday’s double-header at The Oval threw up a candidate for its worst moment of PR yet: a member of Surrey’s groundstaff throwing sawdust from a bucket into a wet patch on the outfield, each handful met with an ironic “olé!” from a restless, cricket-starved crowd. It had been a rainy week in South London, with regular, heavy showers and Sunday morning was no different with persistent rainfall until midday. Two further patches followed, one shortly before the scheduled start of the women’s match at 3.30pm, and another at around 5pm, but for most of the afternoon the sun was out, with wind blowing across the ground to help the outfield dry. After the women’s fixture was abandoned – a result that suited both sides – the men’s squads came out to warm up ahead of a scheduled 6.30pm toss, with fielders taking high catches on the boundary edge and players kicking a football around. But umpires Nick Cook and Nigel Llong were immediately concerned by a soggy patch on the edge of the square on the Harleyford Road side of the ground; long discussions with both captains and coaches followed, before confirmation that an initial 6.45pm inspection would be followed by another at 7.45pm.Loud boos and slow hand-claps followed, with minimal communication to the crowd over the public address system or via the big screens. Readers told ESPNcricinfo that there had been “absolutely no communication” and that “shambles is the word for the ECB”, while fans on social media reported families leaving the ground after a long afternoon sat watching nothing in particular.Heather Knight, the England women’s captain, echoed those sentiments working on the BBC’s radio coverage. “I’m very surprised that nothing has happened and that there’s been no communication – or very little communication – to the crowd as to why that’s been the case,” she said. “It’s the same with anything: if you don’t understand why something has happened and you’re frustrated by it, you sometimes just turn away and think that’s not for me.”That’s exactly what we don’t need in cricket and exactly what the Hundred isn’t designed to do. It’s designed to do the opposite, to bring new people into the game, and if they don’t understand things and don’t understand why and are frustrated by what seems to be a mad situation, they’re likely to turn away.”Related

Jason Roy, Sunil Narine help keep Oval Invincibles invincible at home

By 10.25pm, when the 65-ball men’s match finally finished, a reasonable proportion of the 19,382-strong crowd had made their exits. Those who stayed were treated to a high-scoring, high-octane match, which saw 241 runs scored and 14 wickets fall in 130 balls, with Jason Roy the star of the show, but most of them had spent the five-hour wait at the bar. Chants of ‘Don’t Take Me Home’ suggested the usual Blast crowd were in town, unless the ECB’s cherished new audience are all desperate to stay at The Oval “drinking all your beer” into the dead of night. In truth, it was a thankless task for the umpires – booed and jeered during their second inspection, then cheered warmly two hours later after Llong took evasive action to tumble out the way of Samit Patel’s straight drive. Their eventual decision to bring one boundary in 10 yards was pragmatic but perhaps later than necessary – and meant Tom Curran could chip a 62-metre six over square leg – though generally supported by the players.”It was ridiculously wet, to be honest – madness,” Roy said afterwards. “Even now, when we were fielding there, I had one where I completely slipped over and I was soaked. The groundstaff did an incredible job just to get us on the field.”There probably wasn’t a huge change from when we went on and when we were due to start but the umpires didn’t think that way, so we had to wait and be patient. I don’t think there was a huge amount of change. They changed the boundary size but the outifled was still pretty well. We just had to get on with it.”Sam Cook, Trent Rockets’ debutant, had a similar view. “From the outside looking in, it probably looked like ‘why aren’t we starting?’, but to be fair, there were some really wet, muddy patches,” he said.”Even on the short boundary, throughout the game it was pretty damp. It was a brilliant effort from the groundstaff – we were all keen to play some cricket in front of a full house but I think that delay was definitely justified, if you saw how the conditions were out there. In the end, it gave 20,000 fans what they wanted, and that’s what the competition is all about.”The main lesson was that days like this demand transparency. Most fans went home happy after an enjoyable – if long – day out, a breathless match and with a 50% refund, but unclear as to the reasons behind the delay, let alone why it had taken quite so long. Clear communication is key: if an umpire or official had even briefly taken to the DJ stage to explain the decision, this near-farce could have been avoided.

Ross Taylor: WTC win 'makes up for the heartbreak of 2019'

The New Zealand batter says he has no no plans of retiring, and that he “still want(s) to learn and still get better”

Ross Taylor – ‘The photo of me, Kane coming off speaks louder than words’

New Zealand batter Ross Taylor has toasted the side’s World Test Championship victory, saying it will “make up” for the 2019 World Cup heartbreak at Lord’s, where they lost losing the final to England.”I guess at the start of my career, there was a few ups and downs,” Taylor said during a virtual media interaction on Wednesday. “We played in a few inconsistent sides, but, no, I guess over the last few years, the team has built into a fantastic consistent side and after the heartbreak of the 2019 World Cup, this is definitely the highlight and I think probably makes up for that.”Fittingly, it was Taylor, New Zealand’s highest run-getter in Test cricket, who sealed the win on the sixth day with a shovelled four off his legs to the midwicket boundary. Taylor, however, refused to see it as “his moment” and fondly looked back at finishing things off with his captain Kane Williamson.”…Once the winning runs were hit, walking off with him [Willamson] and the discussions afterwards, it’s something that I’ll never forget,” he said. “It was still touch and go when I went out there to bat; to get through that hard period and Kane’s been a fantastic captain and ambassador for the game and our country. And for him to be out there and on that last ball before, he sort of gave me a stare: ‘hurry up and finish it’ so that he doesn’t have to. So it was nice to hit the boundary and celebrate what was a tough match with a lot of hard work over the last two or so years.”Will we see this moment immortalised as a statue one day?•Getty Images

Immediately after Taylor hit the winning runs, he embraced Williamson, patted him on his head, and exchanged glove punches, with the New Zealand fans celebrating in the background. The image of the pair walking off the ground together has become iconic, with the public even suggesting it should be immortalised as a statue at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.”It was just nice to have been there,” Taylor said. “But, I think, I’ve seen the photo a lot. A lot of people have sent it to me and I think the photo of Kane and I come off probably speaks louder than words. The photo says it all, I think. Obviously, we were very happy with what we had achieved but also there was a little bit of relief in there too that we were finally able to get one across the line.”After the heartbreak of 2019, it was nice to finally be out there and be there with Kane and go and celebrate it with a lot of guys – BJ [BJ Watling], Boulty [Trent Boult], Tim [Southee], a lot of guys who have been in this team and experienced a lot of highs and lows over a long period of time.”I’ll leave that [having a statue at the Basin Reserve] to the people to decide but I’m sure if you ask Kane, I know what the answer will be.”‘Just want to keep playing cricket’ – Taylor brushes aside retirement talk
In a recent interview with the ICC, Taylor admitted that, had the 2019 final not turned out as it did, he might have retired after that tournament (or after that summer). On Wednesday, the 37-year-old was asked again whether he was tempted to retire now that he had experienced the high of winning the inaugural WTC, but he brushed it off, saying he still had the drive to play and perform for New Zealand as well as his domestic side Central Districts.’I just want to keep playing cricket, whatever level that is, for as long as I can’•ICC/Getty Images

“It’s still sinking in that we can call ourselves world champions, but I’m still loving the game of cricket,” Taylor said. “I still want to learn and still get better, so that’s a good sign. But, yeah, at this stage I just want to keep playing cricket, whatever level that is, for as long as I can… New Zealanders for whatever reason retire at 34 or 35, and once I got to 37 I can understand why they do – you get asked the question a lot, your age comes into question a lot more when you do things exactly the same as what you were doing two years ago, but you’re doing them wrong because of your age which is sometimes a bit hard to swallow. Regardless of when I do pull up stumps, I still feel like I can play domestic cricket, I still love playing for my country and I still love playing for Central Districts as well.”Taylor’s T20I future, however, is uncertain after he had been dropped from that side during New Zealand’s last home summer and was asked to prove his form and fitness in the Super Smash for the Central Stags. Glenn Phillips seamlessly slotted into the middle order instead and ultimately won his first central contract after featuring in each of the 14 T20Is New Zealand played over the 2019-20 home summer. Taylor hasn’t played a T20I since November 2020, and doesn’t see a spot opening up for him anytime soon.”No, I haven’t really thought about anything as I said. My main focus over the last sort of while was just to do everything I can to make the [T20] World Cup side,” he said. “My calf and hammy were playing up leading into that. No, I think the team is pretty settled in the Twenty20 side, and there’s a lot of cricket to be played before and after that. No, I don’t see the team changing much in the near future.”

Chelsea open talks to sign "insane" £30m star for Maresca ahead of Man Utd

da apostebet: Chelsea are once again stealing the headlines following their reported deal to sign young Aston Villa prospect Omari Kellyman, with their attention instantly switching towards a Ligue 1 ace.

Chelsea transfer news

da bet7: Todd Boehly is yet to see the rewards for his excessive spending since taking over at Chelsea and now onto his fourth permanent manager, he really ought to get this summer transfer window right.

Tasked with turning the same ship around that Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino helped leave stranded is Enzo Maresca. The former Leicester boss arrives with it all to do before the Blues' opening Premier League game against champions and the club Maresca once assisted, Manchester City.

Helping the new head coach in pursuit of turning things around at Stamford Bridge will at least be new arrivals Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian and likely Omari Kellyman, with Chelsea reportedly agreeing a £19m deal to sign the Aston Villa gem. But that's not to say he'll be the final arrival.

Chelsea want "electric" dream Maresca LB who would Chillwell upgrade

He is linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

ByJoe Nuttall Jun 22, 2024

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Chelsea are now in talks with the representatives of Jonathan David over a potential summer deal, though they are yet to approach Lille. This follows their reported agreement to sign Kellyman in a busy start to the summer.

Following another impressive Ligue 1 campaign, David could finally get his move with Chelsea looking to beat rivals Manchester United to a summer deal that could cost £30m, with the Red Devils recently advancing their talks.

"Incredible" David can compete with Jackson

Following a mixed debut season in London, Nicolas Jackson's place in Maresca's Chelsea side could be far from guaranteed, especially if David arrives this summer. The Canada international, now 24 years old and heading to his prime, showed plenty of signs that he's more than capable of competing with the current Blues forward and more next season.

David's form and potential makes Antonio Mango's praise no surprise. The U23 scout described the forward's numbers as "absolutely insane" last season, posting on X:
